Reducing Structural Barriers and Health Disparities in Washington State
SOCIAL INJUSTICE
"Social justice is the view that everyone deserves equal economic, political, and social rights and opportunities by the National Association of Social Workers".
"Health equity is achieved when every person has the opportunity to “attain his or her full health potential” and no one is “disadvantaged from achieving this potential because of social position or other socially determined circumstances.” Health inequities are reflected in differences in length of life; quality of life; rates of disease, disability, and death; severity of disease; and access to treatment by CDC".
VACCINE ACCESS:
1- Transportation
Transportation is a structrual barrier faced by many migrants and refugee to get the COVID-19 Vaccine. Therefore CHWCMR is working with LISC to provide an Uber ride to get vaccinated
2) ITINS number for all CHWs
Many migrants and refugees are obligated to use also SS; however, they can help them to pay for the cost to get an ITIN number. Thanks to Shen-Yen Lu Fundation. A ITIN number is The ITIN number, helps to file tax returns and pay taxes. People who were earning certain types of income.
3) Economic Compensation for all CHWs
If you expects that CHWs or trusted members of the community are a free force, you are part of the problem in perpetuarying structural barriers by Dr. Ileana Ponce-Gonzalez.
Following us and compensate all CHWs for their services to their communities, it is a rigth thing to do regarding their imigration status, level of education and social determinant affecting them.

An Institutional barrier is that favor a person based on race, gender or religious background rather than professional capacity.
Example of Government Barriers
Asking for so many surveys to CHWs without any kind of economic or other kind of compensation.
In fact, organization, institutional barriers typically carry the blame for various types of discrimination, including racism, gender discrimination, age discrimination and other types of selection not based on performance.
